- Hive Parts -

  • Seaboard HDPE Outer Cover
    • A Douglas Farm Exclusive
    • Food Safe - USDA and FDA Food Grade Plastic
    • Built tough, our HDPE is Marine Grade Plastic
    • Easy Clean!
    • It is UV and weather resistant. It is also mold resistant. So, it is better then wood covers when above a top feeder.
    • The HDPE does not need to be painted, but the side walls are made of pine.
      • Our test covers did not have side walls, and did not fly off their hives in 75 mph winds.
    • Heat insolation - our HDPE has more than double the R factor of any type of wood or foam.
    • 4 covers fit a standard US pallet (48" x 40")
    • 3/8" or 1/2" Thick HDPE - 18" x 22"
    • Just the cover (no side walls):                       1/2" $20   3/8" $18
    • Assembled with telescoping wood side walls: 1/2" $24   3/8" $22
  • Ventelated Inner Cover $ 10
    • Increase air flow while preventing rain from entering the hive.
  • Standard Inner Cover with Bee Escape $12.50
  • Hive Top Feeder (10 Frame) S/H 8lbs: $23
  • Varroa Screen, Pine Bottom Board & Debris Tray (info)- $35
    • The Varroa Screen is placed on top of a regular bottom board. The front entrance of the bottom board is closed off, forcing the bees to enter above the screen. A certain percentage of Varroa Mites will fall off the bees accidentally or in transferring from bee to bee. With the Varroa Screen on the hive, the mites will fall through the screen onto the bottom board. With just a bottom board in place, the fallen mites would just hitch a ride on the next bee entering the hive and, thereby, get back into the cluster. With the screen in place, they cannot do this, and, consequently, they just die in place on the bottom board. Researchers indicate that mite fall may be as high as 30% of the mites. That's 30% you don't have to kill with chemicals. Comes fully assembled. Dimensions: 22" x 16-3/4" x 1-1/2".
    • Note- Reverse the bottom board and have the bottom board entrance facing out the back, you can do your monitoring from the back of the hive - that is unless you have the hive up against a wall or a fence.
  • Long Varroa Screen, HDPE Bottom Board & Debris Tray (info) - $48
    • A Douglas Farm exclusive, and major advance from clasic equipment.
    • The varroa screen is extended into the landing area, a mite's point of entry into a hive.
    • HDPE Bottom Board is made of marine grade materials. A bottom board is exposed to large amounts of moisture. The HDPE board will not rot like wood.
    • A screened drain hole in the bottom board prevents moisture build up inside the hive's bottom.
  • 10'' Standard Hive Tool  S/H: 1 lb. ea. $6
  • Pro Smoker (4x9)    S/H: 5 lbs      Price : $32
  • Inner Cover Bee Escape    S/H: 1 lbs      Price : $3.5

Plastic Frames

Pierco Frames

Fully assembled plastic frames that have foundation coated in wax. These frames have the foundation and frame as one piece and require no pins, wire crimping or other securing device. They can withstand very hive speeds in the extractor and do not rot like wood frames. The foundation helps make even comb. Bees will expand cells when drones are needed. Foundation does not limit cell size, its just a starting guide. Foundation also helps bees since they have less comb to build. Spray plastic frames with sugar water during installation to accelerate acceptance.

Fully drawn plastic comb – NOT just foundation:

The main honey flow is usually a few short months per year. The time it takes your bees to draw comb from foundation is better used to store honey. The bees require ~9 pounds of honey to produce one pound of wax. Avoid this penalty and increase your honey production. consider upgrading your deeps from Pierco to Plastic Comb.

Galvanized Hardware Mesh Reference

#5 Mesh: Use for pollen trap screens. When the bees squeeze through this size screen, some of the pollen being carried is dislodged.

#6 Mesh: Use for making varroa screens, but bees can pass through.

#7 Mesh: Use for the screen that covers the pollen collection drawer.

#8 Mesh: Use for moving screens and varroa screens - anywhere you don't want the bees to go. #8 is too fine to allow some pollen grains to pass through.
